麻豆女郎鈥檚 M.A. in Psychology equips students with a comprehensive understanding of human behavior and the skills to apply psychological principles across diverse professional settings. Designed for those seeking to deepen their knowledge or explore future pathways in mental health, counseling, or related fields, the program combines academic rigor with practical insight to support informed academic and career decision-making.

Students will complete foundational courses in psychological theory, human development, psychopathology, counseling skills, ethics, multicultural perspectives, and research. The curriculum is designed to help students develop a strong academic base and experiential insight while preparing them to consider future study in licensure-track programs such as Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC), School Counseling, or the Doctor of Psychology in Counseling and School Psychology (Psy.D.).

In this program, you will:

• Build foundational knowledge of psychological theories and counseling frameworks across major domains, including human development, psychopathology, and helping relationships.
• Develop introductory skills such as attending, reflecting, summarizing, and asking open-ended questions for work in psychology and the helping professions.
• Explore mental health presentations through case conceptualization, introductory diagnostic reasoning, and treatment planning.
• Strengthen research literacy, program evaluation skills, and written and oral communication for graduate-level work.

Program of Study

The M.A. in Psychology is a 36-credit online program that provides foundational graduate coursework in counseling and psychology. Students complete a 50-hour pre-practicum experience, participate in dispositional and eligibility assessments, and complete a comprehensive examination, supporting professional growth, career discernment, and readiness for the emotional, ethical, and relational demands of the field.

The program can serve as a stepping stone for students who may later seek admission, advanced standing, or transfer into one of Rivier鈥檚 licensure-track programs, including Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC), School Counseling, or the Doctor of Psychology in Counseling and School Psychology (Psy.D.). Admission or transfer into a licensure-track program is not automatic, as students must meet all eligibility, candidacy, admissions, and program requirements.
